A diamonds weight is measured in what is known
as a carat, which is a small unit of measurement
equal to 0.2 grams. One carat is divided into 100 points.
A diamond weighing one quarter of a carat can also be
described as weighing 25 points or 0.25 carats. Points
are generally not used to describe weights over one carat.
Carat is not a measure of a diamonds size, since
cutting a diamond to different proportions can affect
its weight. Most people compare carat weight to size.
The larger the diamond the more it weighs. Here are some
examples of different weights for round diamonds and their
corresponding sizes. These may not be actual size due
to your monitor. The approximate girdle diameter is displayed
in millimeters.
The most important thing to remember when
it comes to a diamonds carat weight is that it is
not the only factor that determines a diamonds value.
In other words, bigger does not necessarily mean better.
All 4 CsCut, Color, Clarity and Carat Weight must
be balanced, nor is any one more important than the others.
